Oosterhout, July 2023
– Salomon d.o.o. in Ljubljana Polje, one of the main printers in Slovenia in the web offset printing market, has just successfully finished the commissioning of Q.I. Press Controls’ (QIPC) upgrade on their KBA Colora press. The good results of the 2022 investment in press control automation of QIPC’ sister company EAE Engineering automation Electronics (EAE) made further investment more than logical.
The partnership between Salomon d.o.o. and QIPC-EAE goes way back. In 2017 QIPC installed mRC-3D color and cut-off register on their manroland ROTOMAN heatset press. And ever further back in 2001 EAE installed their press control solutions on the KBA Colora press 22 years ago. Over the years, Salomon has always been extremely satisfied with both companies, their solutions and people. The recent EAE investment made last year again showed the benefits of the state-of the art systems related to print quality and significant cost reduction. This was reflected by the decreased production-run times and the increased end-product quality of those production runs. With this outcome, it was evident to look at further performance improvement with QIPC solutions.
Aleš Trček, Service department manager of Salomon PRINT: “We have great experiences with the QIPC solutions already installed. Add this to the reliability and low price and the choice was quickly made. With this order QIPC would replace the existing color register system and additionally install cut-off and side-lay register control. This with the purpose to improve quality, reduce waste and lower the workload of the press operators.” He continues: “The initial planning and ordering phase, expertly handled by Harold Drinhuyzen, QIPC’s area manager, showed that the decrease in start-up time and waste copies, would give a ROI of less than a year. To give proof of this claim, a guarantee was given on the maximum start-up waste. This made the purchase decision even more easy.”
The results after commissioning of the system are highly satisfactory. Aleš Trček: “Commissioning of the new system was stress free. Initial measurements show that the system is capable of extreme speed and accuracy. The system finds the QI marks within 5-10 cylinder revolutions and a perfect register is achieved in as little as 70-100 copies. Performance is far beyond expectation. The user interface is extremely user friendly and easy to understand. It took our press operators only one working day, to switch to the new system and use it to its full potential. As the newly installed cameras can also accommodate future upgrade to inline color density control, the system is ready for possible expansion. So the future looks bright.”
Salomon Print prints high-circulation daily and regional newspapers, magazines, commercial catalogues, leaflets and brochures. They have over 200 clients, and no less than 70 percent are loyal customers that have become a part of their family of satisfied business partners.
