Walstead Leykam Tiskarna d.o.o. invests in closed-loop colour control of Q.I. Press Controls

Oosterhout, August 2020 - The Walstead Leykam Tiskarna d.o.o. printing company in Hoče-Maribor invests in new press automation of Q.I. Press Controls (QIPC). The Dutch specialist in measuring and control equipment for the printing industry supplies a new mRC-3D system for cut-off control and an IDS-3D system for colour control to modernise an existing press. At the print company itself, they speak of an 'anti-aging programme' for the press.

Future-proof
Walstead Leykam Tiskarna d.o.o. is enthusiastic about the new automation for the K&B Compacta 408 press. "We are making our press future-proof," says Head of Printing Christopher Vötsch. "With these new systems, we can stay at the top of a shrinking market. Faster start-up times mean that we can work more efficiently and make substantial savings on waste".

Proven service
Christopher Vötsch knows what he's talking about, because the press is already partially equipped with an mRC-3D colour register control system from QIPC. Collaboration on that project initially got off to a difficult start, but QIPC proved itself to the print company with unparalleled service by solving the problems that were there in a very professional manner. "Because now we are so satisfied with the other system, we decided to opt for QIPC again," says Christopher Vötsch. "The fact that Walstead Leykam Tiskarna d.o.o. did not even look at other options for this new automation illustrates how satisfied they are with the way we have ensured that this first installation performs optimally," Area Sales Manager Harold Drinhuyzen of QIPC says proudly.

Anti-aging program
The press, which is mainly used for commercial printing, will be equipped with a new mRC-3D system for cut-off control and an IDS-3D system for colour control. "The upgrade was necessary in order to offer our customers more advantages in this competitive market," explains Christopher Vötsch. "With this retrofit project, we can offer them higher quality printing. Retrofits keep presses up to date and ensure that they meet the requirements of the future market. You can see this investment as a kind of 'anti-aging programme' for our press."

Additional Opportunities
QIPC is also pleased with the intensified cooperation. According to Harold Drinhuyzen it offers many opportunities for further growth. "I expect this press to be ready for the next five to ten years thanks to this investment. Walstead is quite a large group, so if the new plant performs the way we expect it to, it will give us opportunities for other presses with this print facility and others".
